Practice Areas
Estate Planning
Because of its long history in Lafayette, the firm has had the privilege of assisting generations of Tippecanoe County residents with planning their estates, creating trusts, preparing advance health directives, writing wills, and otherwise providing counsel on similar important life decisions.
Personal Injury
Hoffman, Luhman & Masson is very active in both defending and prosecuting civil litigation in Lafayette and the surrounding areas. We have experience with contract, tort claims, civil rights claims, and other matters in the state trial courts, Indiana Court of Appeals, United States District Court for the Northern District of Indiana, and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals.
Creditor's Rights and Collections
The firm has a great deal of experience representing collection agencies, financial institutions, and other creditors in their efforts to collect unpaid debts in Tippecanoe County and surrounding counties, including Newton, Jasper, White, Carroll, Benton, Warren, Fountain, Montgomery, Clinton, Howard, and Boone Counties.
We begin from the obvious but often forgotten premise that if you have provided a product or service, you ought to be compensated for it. From there, our goal is to ensure that your claim is a priority to the person who owes you money. Our philosophy is to be firm but fair in our efforts to collect debts. Where no income or assets are available, being disrespectful to the person who owes money is not useful. Where they are available, being disrespectful is unnecessary. Our goal is simply to locate income and assets that are legally available to satisfy the debt and see to it that they are so applied.
For additional information, see our blog posts on collections.
Governmental Affairs
The firm has represented a number of governmental agencies over the years, including the Frankfort Airport Authority and the Benton County Drainage Board. However, its primary government client continues to be Tippecanoe County and its component agencies, including the Tippecanoe County Commissioners, the Tippecanoe County Council, and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department.
In the course of our representation of government clients, we are called upon to provide legal rights on a wide range of issues including public meeting and records laws, ordinance creation, public finance issues, human resource questions, civil rights claims, contract negotiations, drainage law, and other matters as diverse as the activities of the municipality itself.
